5 Getaways Perfect for Fall in New Jersey

New Jersey is slowly transforming into a Fall Wonderland; the typically green foliage is slowly transforming into an artist’s canvas, with all sorts of colors bursting into life. Watching the leaves slowly transform is one of the most beautiful experiences you can hope for throughout the year. Unfortunately, you can only observe the full extent of these changes from so many places in the Garden State. You are, however, in luck because the specialists at our day trips service in New Jersey have compiled a list of some of the best locations in the state to truly enjoy fall foliage while taking a much-needed break for a few days.

Before we get to that, we recommend employing the services of our bus rental service in New Jersey for all your fall excursions. Fall is a time of relaxation, a time to spend quality time with friends and family, so you might as well let someone else take the wheel. Relax in the back of a luxury vehicle as our chauffeurs handle all the driving and navigation, watch the colors pass you by as you are safely and promptly transferred to any one of these amazing getaway locations in the Garden State.

Stanhope

This quaint town is the definition of unassuming, but if you are a fan of old-fashioned, charming townships, then you will feel right at home here. The town may be small, but it offers you the perfect environment for a quiet getaway. Head over to the Whistling Swan Inn where you will be greeted by hospitable staff and friendly locals; you are almost always an honorary member here the moment you walk in. For some more fun, we recommend heading over to the Stanhope house where you will be entertained by live musical performances from local artists.

If you are looking to spend the night, close by you will find the Walnut Valley Suite where one in every nine rooms features a gas fireplace, a king-size bed, a Jacuzzi, and fresh robes for you and your companions. The Walnut Valley Suite also offers you a delicious breakfast offering with tasty selections such as cranberry-apple pancakes, lemon pancakes, spinach cheddar quiche, French toast, and much more. Also, if you love history you don’t want to leave before you have visited the nearby Waterloo Village. The village is adorned with Victorian Style homes, an old-school blacksmith shop, and the Living History Village. We recommend planning your visit for the annual Fall Festival for an even more fulfilling experience.

Hoboken

Hoboken is a New Jersey town and getaway destination located right by the Hudson River. The town itself exudes a hipster-like, small-town vibe and offers visitors perfect views of the Manhattan skyline. During off-seasons such as fall, you will also be able to enjoy streets lined with beautiful trees all proudly adorning their fall colors. We recommend visiting the Barsky Gallery as well as the Hoboken Historical Museum while you are here for the latest art exhibitions by local artists. Also, take some time to go shopping at some of the brand-named stores and boutiques located on Washington Street or simply take a casual walk along the waterfront for some riverfront views and crisp autumn air.

Mullica Hill

This is a census-designated location in the Harrison Township in New Jersey. If you love history, antique products, and old-fashioned architecture, then this may just be the place for you this fall. The Main Street of this district alone is home to over 30 antique shops including a three-story mill that was converted into an antique center. Most towns in the United States will have at least one property under the National Register of Historic Places; not here. The entire town has been deemed a historic place, which is amazing. The civil war houses have been converted into galleries, collection shops, restaurants, and boutiques.

There are two annual events you should be on the lookout for if you plan to visit this year; the Ghost Walk and the Civil Weekend, both typically held in October. The Civil War Weekend is essentially a recreation of battles between the Northern and Southern armies while the Ghost walk is an event held to promote insight of the district’s haunted history. We recommend setting up camp at the quaint Candle House Inn while you are here but note that the inn only offers three en suite rooms, so make your reservations early.

Sussex

Sussex is a small town located in Northwestern New Jersey, known for its amazing fall foliage. The town is surrounded by dense woods and it oozes of a rural vibe, making it perfect for enjoying nature in its unblemished state. Head over to High Point State Park and enjoy the trails along with the breathtaking beauty of autumn. You also don’t want to miss out on the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge where you will not only be impressed by the colors but by the flock of birds migrating during this season. If you are a wine lover, we also recommend visiting the Ventimiglia Vineyard at least once during your visit.

Cape May

If you are tired of the big city life, always having to drive or take a bus/train to places then Cape May will give you a much-needed break. Here, whether you are walking to a restaurant, going to the store, or heading to the beach, everything is within walking distance. Unlike most coastal towns that are adorned with condos and motels, Cape May features converted mansions and Victorian homes which give it an old-school vibe that is perfect for fall.

Even though the town itself makes you feel like you are living in the 1800s, the town is equipped with all the modern amenities you would need and the warm hospitality of the locals will have you feeling right at home. Keep an eye out for the Victorian Weekend which is an annual event typically held in October. Plan your visit around that time in order to learn more about this historic town and life in the Victorian era.
