Morning Routines to Help You Get More Done

The New Year is here and it’s the perfect time to start thinking about switching up your morning routine to get the most out of each day. So get ready for the year ahead and read on to learn all about how you can apply the morning routines of successful business people to your own life – starting today!

  • Eat a good breakfast

You’ve probably heard this advice a million times before, but there’s a good reason why experts call breakfast the most important meal of the day. What you eat (or don’t eat) at breakfast will determine how your body starts functioning for the day ahead, so plan healthy, energizing breakfasts in advance to help you when your brain is feeling foggy in the morning. Schedule time to cook, sit down, and eat your breakfast before leaving in the morning too – grabbing a quick bite of a cereal bar whilst rushing out of the door does not constitute a good meal!

  • Exercise

Many successful business people will get themselves energized for the day ahead with a morning exercise regime. If you can’t face the thought of lifting weights or running 5 miles before the sun comes up, try gentler exercise such as yoga or Pilates, and if you don’t have time to go to the gym for a class use an app or instructional DVD at home – you’ll still get the same energizing benefits and feel alert and ready for the day ahead.

  • Don’t get bogged down on your smart phone

Those little red notifications sitting by the side of your email, Facebook, and Twitter apps on your smartphone can be difficult to ignore, particularly in the morning when you probably haven’t checked them since the previous evening. Don’t be tempted to get into these as soon as you wake up in the morning, as it can be easy to get stuck in the loop of checking and re-checking status updates, news, and email queries, rather than focusing on your objectives for the day ahead.

  •   Outline your goals for the day

Write down some simple goals that you want to complete by the end of the day as soon as you wake up in the morning. This will help you to focus your mind and gain clarity when you are feeling overwhelmed by a demanding workload. Keep your goals simple and personal, and reward yourself in some small way when you achieve them.

  • Get your brain warmed up for the day

If you struggle to get productive early in the morning, try doing some simple mental exercise to help get you going. Try crosswords, Sudoku, or a brain training type app on your smartphone or iPad. If you don’t have time when you wake up in the morning, try doing them on your commute to the office or when you stop for your morning coffee.
