The Best Labor Day Weekend Events to Attend in New Jersey

Labor Day is approaching fast; you can almost smell the excitement in the Garden State. It’s a chance, not only to celebrate all the hardworking individuals that make the nation what it is, but it’s also an opportunity to enjoy an extended weekend, which also gives us sufficient time to bid summer goodbye. New Jersey has numerous exciting events planned for you and your family/friends this long weekend and our day trips service in New Jersey specialists know just where to look.

Before we look into these events, it is important that you take into account your transportation options seeing as everyone will be out and about making the most of their last bit of summer, and rightfully so. Nonetheless, traffic and parking spaces will be a nightmare, so you may want to consider employing the services of a reputable car service like our New Jersey group transportation service for you and your companions. Leave all the navigation and parking to a professionally trained and knowledgeable chauffeur and focus on making the most of this mini-vacation before summer comes to an end.

The Annual Mendham Borough Labor Day Parade

The Mendham Borough Labor Day Parade is scheduled to go down between the 31st of August and the 2nd of September with marches being staged on Main Street, Mendham, and coming to a halt at Borough Field. Several fire departments will take part in the parade and at the end of the parade the different departments will engage in an entertaining Fire Hose Competition where each department tries to outdo the others in firehose skills. We should probably warn you though, you will get wet, but that is one way to cool off in the summer heat, right? The parade will begin every day at midday and come to an end at 9pm, so don’t be late.

Hands-on History Weekend

Head over to the Cold Spring Village in South Cape on the 1st and the 2nd of September between 10am and 5pm each day for two days of educational and interactive learning in Cold Spring Village’s Hands-On History Weekend. All the children will receive a pretend passport upon arrival, which will be stamped at all the buildings they visit after the completion of a minor take-home task like carding wool. At the end of the retreat, the children will be able to redeem their passports at the Country Store for a special treat. This is the perfect opportunity for you and the kids to learn some interesting manual skills like pottery that you wouldn’t normally learn in school. Admission fees for adults are $14 per head and only $12 for children between 3 and 12.

Dinosaurs at Dusk

This event has been running since May and will only come to an end on the 2nd of September. Head over to the New Jersey State Museum Planetarium in Trenton any day between 1pm and 1am. The Planetarium takes you back in time where you will meet pterosaurs, the feathered dinosaur, and all predecessors of birds as we know them, in an attempt to pinpoint the origin of flight. However, once time runs out, the giant meteorite hits earth and you get to experience first-hand what the last day of the dinosaurs was like, so you may want to bring some tissues in case the kids get emotional. Admission fees go for $7 for adults and $5 for children below 12.
